What is FindFSC.com?
FindFSC.com is a mapping search tool that lets you FIND FSC certified products and suppliers in Canada, and lets you report and share where you have FOUND FSC certified products.
FindFSC.com is developed and managed by FSC Canada (www.fsccanada.org), the national affiliate of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). FSC is an international certification and labeling system dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. Under FSC certification forests are evaluated by third-party Certifiers against FSC’s environmental and social standards, and products are tracked from the forest to the consumer through the supply chain. FSC certified wood, paper and other forest products are then sold with the FSC logo by certified companies in the marketplace.
How does FindFSC.com work?
The FindFSC.com mapping and search tool is a web application that uses the FSC Canada certification database, and Google Places, to identify and map companies that are FSC certified in Canada, and companies that sell the type of product you are searching for.
The FSC Canada certification database includes all FSC Forest Management and Chain of Custody certified locations in Canada, as listed on the FSC International database (www.info.fsc.org). Please allow one month from date of certification to your company’s listing on the database. To update your company listing with Google, please visit www.google.com/places.
FindFSC.com works on Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla and on mobile devices, such as iPhones that support Google Maps Javascript API V3.
Why are some locations identified with
, and others with
?
Find FSC. The FSC logo identifies all FSC certified companies in Canada. All companies involved in the transformation, processing, manufacturing or distribution of a forest based product must be FSC-certified in order to sell a product with an FSC logo and/or with an FSC Claim. Information on FSC certified companies is managed and controlled by FSC Canada.
FSC Found. The ‘found tree’ identifies all companies that sell or promote finished FSC certified and labeled products. Retailers of finished products (e.g. books, office paper, furniture etc.) may sell FSC certified and labeled products to consumers. Many companies also purchase and use FSC certified products for their own business, and display the FSC label on these products (e.g. envelopes, posters, bank statements etc.). The ‘green tree’ logo is used to identify these non-certified retailers and supporters of FSC certified products. Information on where FSC products have been found at non-certified locations is entered by consumers. Please note that ‘green tree’ locations are therefore not verified and validated by FSC Canada, and are user-generated.
